Arlington Garden is built on a former Caltrans staging ground for the 710 freeway. Instead of a freeway, community members built a garden! The garden was designed by Mayita Dinos around a series of interlocking “rooms” featuring native and non-native Mediterranean plants linked by labyrinthine pathways and hidden trails. Our native plant garden by Tim Becker was designed to emphasize smaller, prostrate natives and emblematic California species like manzanitas. Native and non-native plants combine with formal elements in exuberant and diverse ways that reward play and exploration.
